The Ladies Room Fellowship in Italy

Next application deadline: February 28, 2027

Created to support women making courageous career transitions into the arts.

Open to deserving applicants anywhere in the world, this fellowship has been inspired by women choosing themselves and beginning a new creative chapter.

Funded by author Sarah Hanson, the fellowship helps two female writers participate in our week-long Ladies Room program in Italy by covering tuition and lodging. The Ladies Room Fellowship is fiscally sponsored by Creative Visions, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports creative activists, those that use the arts and media to ignite social change. No fee is required to apply.

The Ladies Room is a residential screenwriting lab for female comedy writers, led by four-time Emmy Winner Liz Hara. Designed to advance women in the largely cis white male-dominated field of comedy, the program focuses on developing women’s chops and confidence to make their voice heard. Each participant will also break her own story idea in an intensive writers room format.

The fellowship covers tuition and lodging, but recipients are responsible for travel to Orvieto, Italy, and meals (apart from the opening dinner). Recipients are expected to keep up with homework assignments, ambitious writing targets, and to give and receive feedback in a healthy, collaborative environment.

Application deadline: February 28, 2027.

Semifinalists will announced shortly thereafter and must make themselves available for an interview.
Finalists will be announced by March 18.
Winner(s) will be announced on or before March 31, 2027.
