The Queen’s Path

Location: Zoom
Next session: Saturday, September 6 (2-4pm PT) & Saturday, September 13, 2005 (2-4:30pm)
Leader: Stacey Simmons

Struggling to fit the unique challenges faced by women protagonists into the traditional Hero’s Journey? Join us for a special workshop that will make your women characters beloved or villainized, but certainly never bland. Led by Stacey Simmons, author of The Queen’s Path.

For 80 years men and women have been instructed to take a Hero’s Journey, in story and in our own personal lives. But the Hero’s Journey can’t hold the lived experience of women. Many talented writers have created models that try to create an alternative for the heroine—however, a woman can’t be a heroine until she is already a Queen. Over ten years of research into myth, film, theatre, history, scripture, and the lives of real women, author Stacey Simmons discovered a pattern hiding in plain sight for more than 1,000 years. It shows up in stories you already know, from the Bible to Barbie. This revolutionary model is an analog to the Hero’s Journey for female-driven narratives, without being derivative of it. Women have their own monomyth, and it isn’t simply a heroine’s journey.
Over two sessions you will first learn the structure and map of the Queen’s Path by looking at famous examples across multiple film genres.
In the first session, you’ll learn the key elements in creating women characters that resonate with audiences—be sure to bring your own script and story outline in order to place your narrative on the Queen’s Path!
In the second session, you’ll work in small groups to craft a unique fairy tale using the Queen’s Path. A limited number of participants will also have the option to submit their story beats in advance for feedback during the second session as well, and all participants will be welcome to listen to and participate in the full session.
Read The Queen’s Path before the class, and you’ll get a lot more out of it! You can purchase it from the publisher or an independent bookstore of your choice.

About Stacey Simmons: Stacey holds a Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of New Orleans and a master’s degree in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. A difficult, painful, and ultimately liberating, two-year period of intense psychoanalysis led Stacey to leave her career in animation and become a psychotherapist. Through her research she uncovered a pattern she named The Queen’s Path that has been hidden in narratives about women since the beginning of storytelling thousands of years ago. All women walk this path on their way to liberating themselves… whether they know it or not. Her book entitled The Queen’s Path: A Revolutionary Guide to Women’s Empowerment and Sovereignty was published in November of 2024. Today Stacey is a frequent speaker on the subject of women’s narratives and a psychotherapist and clinical supervisor at Hope Therapy Center, with offices in Burbank and Newhall, California.

Price: $49 or $89

$49 will register you for both sessions–you will be able to listen, ask questions, and participate in discussion.

Up to five participants may submit their work for Stacey to review live during the second session, and all may listen. To claim one of the feedback slots, you must register at the $89 rate. When the feedback slots sell out, you may still register for both sessions of the workshop at the $49 rate.
